Take mistakes as a learning experience. Yes, learn. If you can forget and let it go, fine; but learn from it in your forgetting process. The learning will prevent you from doing it again, and you will say to yourself, “I have learned my lesson. This I will never do again.”

I am going to tell you a story that I seldom tell people but wish to share with you because it has helped me to let go of my own burdens.

While doing business as a salesperson in Texas, I was sent to visit some clients in New York City. I was raised in the West, and I was just a country boy, which I still am, by the way. As we talked, I found that I really got along well with them. They had a strong ethnic bond between the two of them. They shared a particular religion that they believed in fervently and that bonded them and their families together. You could see it in how they conducted their lives and their business activities. They lived their religion well. As I was talking, a phrase slipped out of my mouth. It was one of those phrases that could be very offensive to someone else. The reason I am not repeating it right now is I promised I would never repeat it again. The instant I said it I knew I had offended them. Upon realizing what I had done, I wanted dig a hole, crawl inside, and hide. I instinctively began to punish myself as I viewed the hurt in their eyes. We had built this wonderful relationship, and I had melted it down in one breath—one single phrase.

I punished myself over and over. I went through the scenario in my head, and just couldn’t seem to let it go. It festered inside me to the point where I could not concentrate or focus on anything else. Finally I mustered the courage to go to them and ask them for forgiveness. We were able to open up and talk about it together.

However, I still held it inside of me, asking myself how I could let words like that exit my mouth. “You believe in words. It is part of your profession. You understand words. You have had experiences, and you appreciate other cultures. That has been one of your hallmarks in life. Now you just obliterated the relationship.”

I was still down, because I had shown myself to be insensitive.

Eventually I had to tell myself that the natural consequence of my actions was that they were offended and I had offended myself. I knew this mistake would heal; I just had to let it go.

The experience became a powerful lesson to me—always think before you speak!

Realize that while you make mistakes, you have also done much good your life.

In several cases, limited finances could stop the elderly from staying active, as they will not be able to pay for the hobbies or leisure activities of their younger years.

But Simply because of the seniors getting old, it doesn’t mean that they need to stay at home, doing nothing and being bored .There are a lot of things  in which seniors can still participate and by doing thus, come back into make contact with  others and enjoying themselves.

For elderly  people who lost a spouse or a companion it may be problematical to go back to conventional life but ,though experiencing loss and being alone as a senior citizen is tough, it’s not impossible to build up a new social life. A good perspective is a most important factor, in choosing most of the opportunities that can come your way.

Analysis studies have indicated that free time and physical activity promote  a better lifestyle. Our bodies should be vigorous and move. Several senior people , as they are growing old, are inclined to become more and more inactive, preferring to watch TV to help  . Finding  senior activities  can modify that.

Learning toys offer a lot more than just fun for kids. Play time for kids is like work time for adults. While most adults, don’t think of kids play time as being productive, it actually offers kids many opportunities to learn and grow physically, mentally and socially.

So if play time is actually like work time, then learning toys are like work tools. The right toys help kids get the most out of their play time. That certainly changes the way we normally think of toys, and places greater importance on the role of parents in selecting the right toys for their kids.

There are several key considerations for selecting the right toy for your child:

1.    Your child should like the toy and be interested in it. This one should be easy to find out.

2.    The toy should be well suited to your child’s physical ability.

3.    The toy should be well suited to your child’s mental and social abilities.

4.    The toy should be well constructed, durable and safe.

Other factors to consider when selecting a toy is knowing the types of benefits that different toys provide. Learning toys can be grouped into several categories based on the benefits they offer kids.

1.    Active learning toys help kids develop gross motor skills. Gross motor skills are developed by using large muscle groups. These skills are essential for healthy development of balancing, walking, rolling and running. Do you buy every e-book or new report out just to get the insider secrets on how to learn e-commerce marketing and Internet marketing? Are you going broke just trying to find the answers? You don’t have to. In fact, there are many free and adequate resources out there on the web that will tell you everything that you need to know and you don’t have to go broke trying to find them!

A year ago, I was new to the idea of doing business online and because of my in-experience I was naive enough to take out my card and spend several thousands on a single package from an internet marketing company at one of their brainwashing sessions. I did this all before having a really good look at what else was available to me.

I attended another session at the same company a year later and, as I sat there, I witnessed reenactments of my own mistake through other people eagerly taking out their credit cards to purchase learning packages ranging from $2,000 up to $5,000 at the end of the seminar.

Please don’t let this happen to yourself. Don’t get me wrong, not all of the people who bought these packages made a mistake. For some, it has proved to be an effective investment of their money, while others may not have received any results at all. My point here is that, if you are a beginner, explore your options and learn as much as you can for free before handing over that card and signing your hard-earned money away.

What I didn’t know and what I want you to know, is that there are a lot of free or cheaper ways to find resources and start learning Internet marketing, so lets take a look at some of the options that you have.

Free E-books, Articles, Podcasts And Radio Shows

There are literally thousands of free e-books and articles all over the web that you can read or download. Article directories are a great place to start and you will find that most of them are filled with useful and informative information designed to educate the reader rather than be filled with worthless advertising information. This is because article directories have strict guidelines set out for those who submit the articles and they must be filled with useful content for the reader.

In the articles that you read, you can also click on the authors back link in the authors resource box and be transferred to the website of the author to find out even more information. Article directories will provide you with very basic knowledge on just about any topic including Internet marketing or e-commerce marketing, providing you with a launch pad to learn more on. All of this is free to you.

Podcasts and radio shows are also a great way to learn about topics of interest. Podcasts are much the same as radio shows although you have the option to subscribe to them, and receive information automatically using software that can read the feed formats such as RSS or Atom. Information from a podcast can be saved, or even downloaded for later and played on your mobile, ipod, mp3 player or on your PC.

Most subscriptions are updated frequently for new information, and best of all they are mostly free. Websites offering podcasts have a small icon that is orange with audio lines through it. By clicking on this icon you can subscribe to that site and receive information as it is made available.

Google It

You can also find plenty of resources by doing a search on Google for Internet marketing information. BUT keep in mind that you are surfing for information, not to purchase anything, so keep your cards in your wallet for now. Don’t be too worried if you come across ‘limited time, once time only’ offers or products and services that are at rock bottom prices. Keep focused on finding the good materials out there.

Forums

Forums are one of the best ways for beginners to find out helpful, free information on e-commerce marketing and Internet marketing. The good forums are free of corny sales pitches. The information provided on forums is mostly for readers, not shoppers. Forums often have ’stickies’ that compile all of the information and posts into a single thread that you can go through. This makes forums even more attractive as you don’t have to search for them.

One of the best forums that I have encountered is http://www.highrankings.com/forum. This forum is frequented by a host of Internet experts in the industry. The forum itself is owned by an SEO company that has been around since 1995. The only problem that you may encounter is that the threads or posts are often filled with SEO jargon, so make sure to check out the stickies that we mentioned earlier first. This site also offers an Advisor newsletter that is very informative. You can also see their archives for information from previous publications.

Blogs

Blogs are another great way to learn things from other Internet marketers. You will find that most Blogs are written by people much the same as yourself and are willing to help you along, giving you tips they have found in their travels. Blogs are a great way to learn from other people’s mistakes and get free info and resources other people have found helpful.

PPC Advertising – Take A Walk In The Park Before Entering The Jungle!

Pay per click advertising is an effective way to get your advertising message across, but before you get too excited and start using PPC ads from Google Adwords and Yahoo, start small. There are great PPC networks such as 7search.com or http://knnoodle.com that are much cheaper and will provide you the experience you need to start off. We all make mistakes and these smaller, cheaper PPC networks are a great way learn without spending too much money and to test the effectiveness of your campaigns before moving onto the big players such as Google or Yahoo.

If you are just beginning, the best and cheapest way to start your Internet marketing business is to sell affiliate products first. Most affiliate programs offer their affiliates resources such as pre-made ads for your PPC campaigns, solid sales and landing pages for your visitors to go to, photos of the products you are selling, follow up emails that are sent out to your customers and much more. By joining an affiliate program that has these tools already in place, you will have an insight into what an effective Internet marketing campaign looks like.

By using an affiliate program, you also have the added advantage of having a ready-made product just waiting for you to start marketing. All affiliate marketing programs are not created equally, so don’t just sign up for the first thing that comes along, make sure that careful consideration goes into the products that you choose to market.

Your internet business depends on the products that you choose. If you don’t find products that are in demand or competitively priced, people won’t buy them and you will not learn anything from this simply because you will not be able to track your results and measure how effective your efforts have been.

You can choose to spend your money and buy one of those expensive packages. By doing this, you may save yourself a lot of time searching for information or you can use the tips provided in my article and spend a little more time doing it. The choice is yours, just as long as you know all of the options that are available to you. Once you start with Internet marketing, remember that you will need to invest both time and money to make your business successful.

Despite what the hype and ads stating how easy it is now, an Internet business is just that, it is a business and needs to be taken just as seriously as a brick and mortar business. It is not a walk in the park, it is hard work and will take a lot of perseverance and patience to get it just right. But when you do, you will reap the rewards.

Parents can support and encourage their children’s successful learning by helping them create a positive study environment. Here are some of the ideas we give to parents of children who have attended SuperCamp, our summer enrichment program for youth and teens. Children spend a lot of time studying at home (we hope!) so why not help them take responsibility for their study space and make it work for them? With just a little effort it can actually be a positive, appealing area where they feel comfortable and motivated.

In all our Quantum Learning teachings we build an awareness of an important concept? we use it at SuperCamp and we use it in our teacher training and in-school programs?and it’s also worth remembering when creating a positive study environment at home. Everything Speaks means that everything in the environment sends a message that either enhances or detracts from learning. Think about tidy vs. cluttered chaos, light and airy vs. dim and dark, inviting and functional vs. any old place.

Location

As they say in real estate, location is everything. Find a place that’s quiet and free of distractions?so, if possible, not the family room or the dining room table! The ideal is a defined study area in your child’s bedroom.

Furnishings

Make sure home study areas have good lighting (ideally, natural light and a lamp), shelves for reference books and supplies, and a computer, if needed. Obviously, they’ll also need a desk or table with space for their study materials as well as a work area that’s not cramped. And a comfortable “sit-upright” chair will help them stay alert and focused.

Resources

Make sure your kids don’t have to waste valuable study time looking for a pen! Help them stock up on pens, paper, and pencils, and have them all within reach, not just somewhere in their room! Also make sure they have whatever reference material they need.

Music

Some classical music is “brain friendly” and enhances the study environment. Baroque music helps students to focus and to access their most resourceful learning state. The music optimizes the functions of the brain that store and retrieve information. Many (most?!) children will think that their own music is best, but try to convince them to try baroque?they may well notice that it makes their study time easier, and want more! Suggest that they try some Bach, Handel, or Vivaldi while they’re studying and save their own music for breaks. If your kids are resistant, a first step might be to suggest that they choose music that does not have words?words interfere with the part of their brain they need to study effectively, even if they’re not consciously listening to the words!

Affirmative signs

Positive signs will remind your child’s subconscious mind of his or her potential to learn. Help your child create an inspiring atmosphere by making some signs?use lots of color (our brains love color!) and the following ideas to get you started:

- I BELIEVE IN MYSELF

- EVERYTHING I DO DESERVES MY BEST EFFORT

- LEARNING IS FUN AND NATURAL!

- EVERY CHALLENGE OFFERS A GIFT

- I AM UNIQUE AND VALUABLE

- I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT I CREATE

- I CAN LEARN THIS!

- EVERYONE HAS THE RESOURCES TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Another good idea is to have an achievement area (a bulletin board would work well) for awards, papers with good grades, and lists of accomplishments. A bulletin board would also work well for posting study schedules and reminders of project due dates.

Homework support

Your show of interest, support, and guidance in helping your child create a positive study environment at home will go a long way toward establishing great homework habits. It’s also a good idea to create and agree on homework guidelines so you can continue to work together toward success. Why not have a special lunch together and set up a plan that will work for both of you? You could also consider a reward for consistently following “the plan.”

- Homework time: Sometimes it’s not easy because of extracurricular activities, but try to define a specific time each day that homework will be started.

- Distractions: Fewer distractions equals more productive time. Make a plan with your child about the timing for phone calls, internet “browsing”, and play time.

- Breaks: Breaks are important. Research shows that students remember more of the information learned at “beginnings” and “endings” of study periods. Thus, better retention is experienced when frequent breaks are taken. A ten-minute break after each hour of study time will enhance learning. (For younger children who don’t have such long study periods, a five-minute break every half hour will work well.)

Researchers at the University of California, Santa Cruz were quite surprised to see just how fast your brain can build new connections when stimulated to learn a new physical activity. Their research places considerable emphasis on the notion that you can help preserve your nervous system by learning new things.

As your nervous system deteriorates so goes your health and quality of life. An array of new science is showing that nerve cells and their connections have the power to regenerate as well as making new connections. Tapping into that power requires exercise, just as you would exercise your muscles to improve your fitness. Brain exercise is simple, learn something new, especially physical skills that you have never learned before.

In this experiment the researchers used mice that had been genetically altered to make a fluorescent protein within certain neurons in the brain. They were then able to use a special microscopy technique to obtain clear images of those neurons. “We found very quick and robust synapse formation almost immediately, within one hour of the start of training,” said Yi Zuo, assistant professor of molecular, cell and developmental biology at UCSC. “We were able to follow the same synapses over time, which had not been done before in a motor learning study. We showed that structural changes occur in the brain at a much earlier stage than people had believed.”

This is all very good news. The process of stimulating your brain to make new connections is likely to have multiple benefits on the overall dynamics of your brain, especially compared to a brain that is inflamed from stress and in a state of wear and tear leading to decline.

Learning a foreign language is easier, such as Chinese, when understanding how you learn. The science of learning is based on several theories and include: multiple intelligences, right-brain/left-brain/whole-brain, and brain-based learning. Understanding how you learn new information becomes the keystone to effective study patterns and habits. Many people who attempt to learn a new language give up, primarily because they pick a program that does not fit their learning style. These people unknowingly try to fit their learning style into a program. The following discussion focuses on learning styles, ways of learning, and how to master second language usage.

Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles

The theory of multiple intelligences, by Howard Gardner (Frames of mind: The theory of multiple intelligences., 1983), provides the foundation for the seven learning styles associated with this theory. They are:

- Verbal – Linguistic: use language and words to understand

- Logical – Mathematical: inductive and deductive reasoning in using numbers abstract patterns to analyze information

- Visual – Spatial: visualize objects/dimensions and create internal images/pictures to understand how something will or might work

- Body – Kinesthetic: control your body’s physical motion

- Musical – Rhythmic: recognize tonal patterns

- Interpersonal: person-to-person communications, relate with others

- Intrapersonal: spiritual, self-reflection, and awareness

Everyone has many styles of learning and one is dominate over all other learning styles. Knowledge of your dominate learning style helps identify which program to select for learning a second language. See the first link at the end of this article to spend a few minutes answering questions to determine your dominate learning style.

Left-Brain, Right-Brain, Whole Brain Learning

Most instruction in educational settings is left-brain oriented, which means a focus on logic and reasoning (Logical – Mathematical learning style). This approach does not emphasize understanding, because traditional education emphasizes rote memorization of facts. Right-brain activities focus on creativity, such as feelings and the arts (Sperry, R.).

A foreign language program needs to focus on a whole-brain approach to support dominate and non-dominate learning styles. This whole-brain approach focuses on comprehension, as learners are encouraged to describe a visual image, draw pictures, use reasoning, and act out situations in which the language is used to understand new language context. This is a very good method for learning new language vocabularies through contextual settings. See the second link at the end of this article to spend a few minutes answering questions to determine if you are left-brain or right-brain dominate.

Brain-Based Learning

According to brain-based learning research (McClean, P.), although each brain is unique, everyone can learn a foreign language such as Chinese. Better foreign language programs take advantage of brain-based research and dominate learning styles to using a whole-brain approach with the following techniques:

- Orchestrated – immersion into learning environments

- Relaxed – elimination or reduction of anxiety and still challenging

- Active – internalization of new knowledge by processing information

A program should not be strictly lecture-based and depend on rote memorization of knowledge. The best programs use many different instructional strategies that fully engage you in the learning process. Based on this brain-based research to support internalization of new knowledge, emersion in cultural and personal experiences with a new language is important to relaxed and active learning. With the wide diversity of people in this country, there are many opportunities to use the new language in an appropriate cultural setting that helps you process and internalize the language.

Mastery Learning of Chinese

Another key to selecting a foreign language program is allowing you all the time you need to learn and master the language. Mastery of learning moves beyond rote memorization of vocabulary to a level that the new language becomes second nature. After reading the different theories of learning you can see that everyone uses different strategies and techniques to learn, even if they do not understand why. Another aspect with knowledge of your learning style is that you do not learn at the same pace as everyone else. The Chinese program we offer supports learning at your own pace and giving you time to master the language. Mastery is attributed to how we learn and the ways we use a new language (Glasser, W.). The following demonstrates level of mastery when Chinese is:

- 70% – Discussed with Others

- 80% – Experienced Personally

- 95% – Taught to Someone Else

Examples of Mastery Learning

An example of 95% mastery is to teach someone else the meaning of yi gong which means all together in Chinese. This is accomplished by having the person take scattered items and place them together while saying the Chinese word. This helps you to internalize and learn as you observe using a whole-brain approach in an orchestrated/active environment. This example uses dominate learning styles that are Logical-Mathematical or Visual-Spatial.

A second example of 95% mastery is to teach someone else the meaning of yi gong by having them follow your actions. This is accomplished by having someone else emulate your motions as you both gather scattered items and bring them together. Again this uses the whole-brain approach in an orchestrated/active environment. This example uses dominate learning styles that are Verbal – Linguistic, Body – Kinesthetic, or Interpersonal.

A third example of 95% mastery is writing a short song that uses yi gong in a pattern or change the words in a musical lyric to include yi gong. Keep the meaning of yi gong in context at all times in the song or lyric. After completing one of these actives, think about how this fits within any of your other actions or situations. This example uses dominate learning styles that are Verbal – Linguistic, Musical – Rhythmic, or Intrapersonal.
